Promises, promises, promises

If you had to, could you name 5 promises that God has made to his children? Let me get you started:

  1. If we confess our sins, he will forgive our sins, because we can trust God to do what is right. He will cleanse us from all the wrongs we have done (1 John 1:9).
  2. How great is God’s love for all who worship him? Greater than the distance between heaven and earth (Psalm 103:11)!
  3. And in this fellowship we enjoy the eternal life he promised us (1 John 2:25).
  4. Jesus answered, “The things impossible for people are possible for God" (Luke 18:27).
  5. For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly (Psalm 84:11).

Now, if you know me, I could go on and on (and on and on).  Verses about God supplying our needs, the Holy Spirit providing help to overcome temptation, the Lord granting wisdom and understanding when we need it, etc. But, one of my favorites at this point in my life is a combination of Psalm 147:15 and Isaiah 55:11.  Because of my poor health, my only outlet has been my writing. And whether it's read right here on my website, or in the inboxes of those who receive it weekly, or on Facebook and Twitter, God has made me this promise:

He [God] sends his orders to the world—how swiftly his word flies! [God speaking to Isaiah says] They will not return to me empty. They make the things happen that I want to happen, and they succeed in doing what I send them to do.

...and I believe him.
