Don't be a ho-hum christian
Beware: this devotion may step on your toes... Do you know God - His heart, His precepts, His will - or is yours a passive relationship that leads to no real spiritual fruit in your life?
Tackling this issue with the Corinthians, the apostle Paul said "...for to your shame I say that some of you don't know God at all" (1 Corinthians 15:34b). In essence, he's saying 'you call yourself a believer...you claim to be a christian but you don't really know God at all; your prayer times are hit & miss; your church attendance is more of a habit than a desire; your understanding of the bible is based on what you've been taught at church and not on your own study.'
Is this true of you?
- Do you know God's heart in terms of the poor in your community and your responsibility to them?
- Do you know God's precepts when it comes to parenting your children and are you willing to implement those precepts?
- Do you know God's will as it applies to your marriage, your duties as a taxpayer, your obedience to the speed limit?
God's Word says "...shame on you if you don't really know God yet call yourself a christian." Ouch! Don't be a ho-hum christian. Get to know your God and what He'd have you do in any given situation.
