He's so wonderful...
…listening to Chris Tomlin’s “Unfailing Love” today, I paused the playback just to marinate myself in the precious words of the musical channel (the interlude between the verse and the chorus): ”And everything you hold in your hands, still, you make time for me, I can’t understand.” It’s true…I really don’t understand it. Why would God care about me; with all my struggles and inconsistencies; with all my hurt loaded down with a truckload of shame and failure? It’s obviously not because I’m so great…it’s because he’s so wonderful!
And how is he wonderful?
- He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve (Psalm 103:10).
- [He] is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love (Psalm 103:8).
- He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds (Psalm 147:3).
- [He is] the one who answers your prayers and cares for you. [He is] like a tree that is always green (Hosea 14:8).
- [He] will not reject a heart that is broken and sorry for sin (Psalm 51:17).
- He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12).
I could go on and on about how much God loves me…loves us. But more importantly, do YOU believe God loves YOU…in spite of yourself? He Does! “He sees the depths of your heart but he loves you the same” (Tomlin, “Indescribable”). What an amazingly wonderful God. I love him so much…
