What's your testimony?

In order to know your testimony, you have to know the difference between a biography and a testimony. A biography is all about you: your accomplishments, your status in this life, your goals, your dreams.  It's basically a detailed list of what someone might read at your funeral.  Not a bad thing, mind you, just a list of everything about you and what you've done.

A testimony, on the other hand, is all about Jesus and what he's done:  his accomplishments, his life, his determination.  It's the glory of his finished work on the cross (the fact that your sin is paid in full, once and for all).  It's his sinless life making a way for you so that God - The Just - will accept you into eternity.  It's his determined love and forgiveness that strengthens your tired feet and rejoices with your joyful heart.

Get the difference?  It's pretty significant.  So, what's your testimony?  Why not take a moment to write it out AFTER reading the below passage from John's vision in the book of Revelation.  When you're ready, here are a few bullet points to get you started:

  • Without Jesus, I'd be----?
  • Because of Jesus, I am----?
  • With Jesus' help, I know----?

Revelation 5:11-12, 9-10   Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying:

“Worthy is the Lamb [Jesus], who was slain,     to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength     and honor and glory and praise!”

You [Jesus] are worthy to take the scroll     and to open its seals, because you were slain,     and with your blood you purchased for God     persons [you and me] from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,     and they will reign on the earth.”

Amen?!  With this information, it's easy to write your testimony, huh?
