Got your life raft?

In my life right now, and in the lives of many I love personally, the ocean is raging.  Like Tom Hanks and his yellow life raft in the movie Castaway, we are being tossed frantically about by the waves not knowing if we'll make it out alive.

  • For some, it's sickness and the burdensome trudging it requires.
  • For others it's sin and the shackles they must drag around.
  • For some it's cancer and the fear that lingers in their hearts.
  • For others it's worry and the instability it creates.

Like Tom Hanks though, we can't lose hope.  Although he was being tossed about with water, wind, lightening and thunder crashing in and on him, he knew that, as long as he clung to the raft, he could make it out of the storm alive...because the life raft couldn't sink.

It's the same for us.  As the storms rage in our lives, we must cling to our life raft, the God of the universe!  If you cling to him, he'll see you through to the other side.  He gives the Holy Spirit to comfort and counsel us and Jesus himself to be in the lift raft with us.

  • Afraid?  God says "I will never leave you or forsake you" (Deuteronomy 31:6).
  • Doubtful?  Consider the words to this familiar song by Christ Tomlin "I know who goes before me, I know who stands behind.  The God of Angel Armies is always by my side.  The One who reigns forever, he is a friend of mine.  The God of Angel Armies is always by my side."
  • Confused?  Isaiah says "Listen! The Lord’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call" (59:1). "The Lord is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him in truth" (Psalm 145:18).

No matter what's going on in your life, be like Tom Hanks (and me):  Cling to the life raft God offers.  It can't sink!
