It recently occurred to me the spiritual significance of one word spelled and defined three different ways. First:  "Rain" - to send down in great quantities.  Isaiah 45:8 niv, "You heavens above, rain down righteousness; let the clouds shower it down.  Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness grow with it; I, the LORD, have created it."

Second:  "Reins" - in the Bible, the word "reins" is used metaphorically for "heart"; it is also the word for "kidneys", the supposed seat of the desires and affections.  Jeremiah 17:10 kjv, "I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings."

Third:  "Reign" - a dominating power or influence.  Romans 5:20b-21 niv, "...where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Why not declare this affirmation with me:  "Lord, please rain down your righteousness into the soil of my life.  Cause my roots to soak it up and produce fruit that's honoring to you.  Search my reins and know my heart; determine what motivates me and correct me accordingly.  Finally, please reign in my life today.  Help me to break sin's influence so that your grace may abound.  Amen."
