Are you a hypocrite?
Are you a hypocrite?
- Are you visibly repulsed by someone's bad habit while conveniently forgetting that you have a few of your own?
- Do you silently rebuke the drug-addicted mother thinking “I could never do that to my child!" even though you allow your own children to watch too much TV, waste hours on social media and get borderline-addicted to video games?
- Do you sarcastically say "nice blinker" to the driver ahead of you and then fail to use your left turn signal at the next stop sign?
Jesus warned his disciples about this type of hypocrisy. He said “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye" (Matthew 7:1-5).
Jesus was right; get that log out of your eye! And if it's too big, ask him for some help.
