Are you Hungry?

Do you love God's words? Are you hungry for His teachings? The patriarch Job said (and I'm paraphrasing) "Cause me to treasure the words of Your mouth more than my daily bread." Wow...more than my daily bread? More than food? That's quite the task: to develop such a hunger for God and His words that you want to spend more time "chewing on the bible" than you do chewing on a cookie! But it is possible. A daily intake of spiritual food encourages a hunger for what? More food. A consistent practice of prayer and bible reading creates an individual who can't live without what? Prayer and bible reading. Each time I open my bible, I check my appetite. Am I simply going through the motions or am I, like David in Psalm 119:162 "hunting for new treasures?"

At the end of King Josiah's life we're told that everything he did, from beginning to end was written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah - including how he "loved what was written in the Lord's teachings." (2 Chronicles 35:27) I hope at the end of my life it can be said that "Julie loved what was written in the Lord's teachings." This is my goal. I hope it's yours too.

A prayer: Lord Jesus, fill my life with a hunger for spiritual things, an appetite for 'right-ness' and a craving for You. When this desire wanes, please draw me to Your side and inspire in me once again a longing to be with You and to know You.
