excuses, excuses.

It’s so easy to make excuses.  Do any of these sound familiar?

  • “My son isn’t getting to play on the football team because the coach doesn’t like him…”
  • “My voice didn’t sound very good because I have a cold…”
  • “My child is acting that way because he/she is tired…”
  • “My daughter got a bad grade at school because the teacher doesn’t like her…”
  • “My conversation wasn’t gossip…I was just explaining something that happened at church…”

God doesn’t want you to make excuses; He wants you to “be honest in the evaluation of yourself…” (Romans 12:3b).

Knowing he was prone to this same type of pride, King David said” Keep me from lying to myself [because] you desire honesty from the heart, so you can teach me to be wise in my inmost being” (Psalm 119:29; 51:6 ).  If we’re not honest with ourselves about why we feel the need to make an excuse about a certain situation, how can God teach us to be wise in our inmost being?

Wise up and be honest with yourself.  You’ll find it to be a great relief.
