How can I say thanks?
As I prepared for the memorial service of a dear friend, I was struck by the words of Andrea Crouch’s familiar song, “My Tribute.” The first verse begins with “How can I say thanks for the things you have done for me?” While practicing, I stopped after that phrase and tried to actually answer the question – ‘how can I say thanks for the things He has done for me?’ Many answers flooded my mind. I say thanks:
- · by living as I should – Psalm 119:7, “As I learn your righteous regulations, I will thank you by living as I should!”
- · by trusting His plan for my life – Deuteronomy 31:8, “The Lord himself will go before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forget you. Don’t be afraid and don’t worry.”
- · by respecting and loving my spouse unconditionally – Colossians 3:18, “Wives, understand and support your husbands by submitting to them in ways that honor the Lord.”
- · by complying to the laws of the land – Romans 13:5, “So you must yield to the government, not only because you might be punished, but because you know it is right.”
- · by ministering to those around me who are in need – 1 John 3:16,“This is how we know what real love is: Jesus gave his life for us. So we should give our lives for our brothers and sisters.”
These are some of the scriptural mandates that came to my mind as a way of showing thanks. How ‘bout you? What can you do to say “thanks” to the Lord for the things He has done for you?
