How's the harmony in your house?
As I read through the book of Proverbs using my One-year Bible plan, I feel like I'm "drinking from a fire hose" of wisdom! Verse after verse is chockfull of vitally important insights and principles that, if adhered to, create a life of substance, prudence and peace. Just this morning I was reminded of what it's like for my husband when my self-serving aspirations get in the way of a harmonious home. It's like this: If I look into my heart and am honest with myself, my daily goal is to do what I want to do. And when someone or some thing gets in my way, the result is "not pretty." Solomon describes it this way: It is better to live in a corner of the housetop than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife. And, It is better to live in a desert land than with a quarrelsome and fretful woman (21:9,19).
It's only when I choose to live according to Biblical precepts that my home becomes congenial. So, in closing, marinate on these wise words from the book of James: If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom. For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind. But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness (3:13, 16-18).
