Sterling silver

How do you speak to those around you?  Are you gentle, thoughtful and respectful or do your words feel like sharp barbs to those who are listening? Proverbs 10:20 says "the words of the godly are like sterling silver..."  Think about it:  Our words should be treasured, polished and worth keeping, not sarcastic and full of jabs.  The next verse (verse 21) says our words should "encourage many."  So again, think about it:  When you're chatting with friends, are your comments helpful or critical?  When you're riding in the car with your children, are your words to the driver in front of you compassionate or belittling? 

Psalm 39:1 says "I will watch what I do and not sin in what I say."  It's a righteous standard to keep but one well worth stiving for.
