Promises with benefits
Check out the amazing Biblical promises w/benefits found in the first chapter of 2 Peter:
- When you respond to God's calling - his call on your life to repent and belief - you get divine resources stemming from Jesus' very own excellence and glory. This means that you have been miraculously given the ability to know, personally and intimately, the One who invited you to God
- You have everything you need for life and godliness because of Jesus' sacrifice. This means that, in your role as spouse, or mother, or friend or employee, you'll not just have what you need to live a godly life but you'll get to do these things in and with the power of the Holy Spirit (which means he'll do the work, you just need to obey).
- Through this promise - that you'll have everything you need for life and godliness - you actually get to participate in the life (and death) of Christ; the ultimate privilege. This means that, as Christ loved, and served and suffered and perservered, you get to love, serve, suffer and preserve right along with him knowing that, when you do, you'll be richly blessed, perfectly satisfied and steadfastly directed.
- You'll be granted the ability to turn your back on your old life when you embrace the new life that is yours in Christ. This means that, as you run from the worldly junk that clogs your connection with Christ, you'll be granted the supernatural strength to actually put on your jogging shoes!
Stay tuned next week when we'll examine our role in response to these promises w/benefits.
The following is 2Peter 1:3-4, English Standard Version: His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
