Trust the Lord

Has God asked you to do something you’re not sure about?  Has he asked you to trust him in spite of your own misgivings?  Consider the following Bible story.  “When [Jesus] had finished speaking (from a boat close to shore), he said to Simon, ‘Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.’  ‘Master,’ Simon replied, ‘we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing.  But, if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again’” (Luke 4:4-5).  Can’t you just hear the under-tone in Simon’s voice, kind of a patronizing ‘…if you say so…I’ll do it.  But I don’t know…’ We do that sometimes, don’t we?  We know, as believers, that God’s way is always the right way but our finite minds limit what we can see.  So, we resort to common sense and/or human reasoning believing we’ll be able to make sense of the situation and forge ahead.

But God knows better and we need to trust him.  Simon did indeed lower his nets into the previously fish-less water and, low and behold, there were fish.  In fact, verse 6 tells us that “this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear!  A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking.”

Trust the Lord if he’s telling you to do something – whether it’s move ahead or wait.  He not only won’t let you down but he’ll give you more than you ever expected.
